Colourful procession in Hamm: Temple festival of the Hindu community

The temple festival of the Hindu community attracted thousands of visitors to Hamm-Uentrop. The colourful hustle and bustle was captured in a short video clip. It impressively depicts the dazzling temple festival and India’s rich diversity. The two-and-a-half-week annual festival of the Sri Kamadchi Ampal temple culminated in a huge procession on 24 June 2018.

Twelve days of culture and religion in the centre of the Ruhr area: This year again, the temple festival was held in Hamm-Uentrop, in Europe’s second largest Hindu temple and attracted more than 13,000 Hindus, worshippers and visitors. The highlight was the huge procession in honour of goddess Sri Kamadchi Ampal. In addition to the colourful robes and splendidly adorned Kavati dancers, there was delicious food and traditional ordination and opening rituals - in particular ritual washings and fire offerings.

Ortel Mobile’s concern of course was how thousands of Hindus can keep in touch and share their experience with their friends and family abroad during the annual festival. Mainly via Facebook and WhatsApp, of course. And now, enjoy watching the video!
