Alt-katholisch is with its approximately 150 years historically a relatively young church. The decisions of the First Vatican Council in 1870 about the infallibility of the Pope and his supreme authority were the reason for its independence. From the Church's point of view, these were decisions that were not in harmony with the Bible and Catholic tradition. This is how the name was born: Alt-katholisch.
